Représentations de la catastrophe au xxie siècle dans les arts plastiques et la littérature : quelles réponses collectives et intimes ?

When the arts of representation (literature, visual arts extended to the performing arts, sound and film) take an interest in catastrophe in 2025, what exactly are they dealing with? What threads run through and unite the works? What do the analyses that accompany them and the positions they underpin have to say? While examining the notion of catastrophe is nothing new, the 21st century has ushered in an era marked by an accelerating succession of ecological, health, economic and political crises, both local and global. Faced with these traumatic events, we are faced with a variety of responses. In this interdisciplinary issue, we propose to take a sensitive and nuanced look at some of the key issues. In particular, we look at issues such as changes of scale, the role of perception, the work of art media and the power of images and narratives. Transfigurations and prospections operate, allowing us a conscious and sensitive traversal of events as well as an enriched understanding of the catastrophic phenomenon. Other cultural horizons and research methods take shape. Finally, they show how collective responses, and intimate experiences remain more intertwined and interdependent than ever.
