About the Journal
Founded in 1895, the Journal de la Société des américanistes is a renowned scientific journal that, aside from hiatuses during the two world wars, has uninterruptedly published an irreplaceable wealth of works by French and international authors.
The natural readers of the Journal de la Société des américanistes are anthropologists in the broadest sense of the word, from students to specialists, who are interested in the whole history of Indigenous and Creole cultures, from their origins to today. The journal’s originality and richness stem from the multiplicity of disciplines that share its pages: ethnology, linguistics, history, archaeology and sociology. A similar spirit of openness can be seen in the range of languages accepted by the journal: English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
The Journal de la Société des américanistes is supported by the Centre national de la recherche scientifique and the Centre national du livre.
