L'instrument de musique

Approches esthétiques et ontologiques
The musical instrument. Aesthetic and ontological approaches
Edited by Bernard Sève

The present issue results from a seminar entitled « L’instrument de musique. Approches ontologiques et esthétiques », led by Bernard Sève in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, within the framework of the UMR 8163, « Savoirs, Textes, Langage ». Though studied by physicists, musicologists, and historians of art and technology, the musical instrument has largely been neglected by philosophers of art. The ten studies gathered here belong to researchers in quite different disciplinary fields, but all are marked by a concern to think philosophically about musical instruments. In their convergences as in their disagreements, these studies testify to the relevance and fruitfulness of interdisciplinary research devoted to the musical instrument.
