Presentation

New World, New Worlds is a journal devoted to the Americas in the fields of history and the social sciences. It favours comparative perspectives and covers all periods. The journal accepts original articles by scholarly specialists of the Americas. It also hosts a wealth of material useful to the constitution of a scientific heritage devoted to the study of the Americas and is a logical part of the “digital humanities” field. Contributions are published in four languages: Spanish, French, Portuguese and English.

Standing firm against obscurantism

Standing firm against obscurantism

In 2025, we called for vigilance in the face of threats from the far right, which had just come to power on both the northern and southern American continents. Far from abating, the systematic attack on knowledge has accelerated, targeting in particular the humanities and social sciences, health, and climate science. Several American and European countries have joined this international obscurantist movement or are in the process of doing so.

Added to this is the actual  return of explicit imperialism in what the current US administration calls “the Western Hemisphere.” In other words, systematic political and economic interference in all Latin American countries. These are all factors that will not encourage research funding.

In this situation, where darkness seems to be looming, Nuevo Mundo Mundos Nuevos will remain the space for freedom and reflection that it has always been. We must stand firm.
