25 | 2025 - Logic and Argumentation

Dead line for submissions : 1st september 2024

The yearly journal Philosophie antique will devote its 2025 special issue to Logic and Argumentation.

Contributions may address any topic contributing to the philosophical analysis of logic and argumentative procedures used or theorized in ancient philosophy, rhetoric or science. Articles may focus on semantics, theories of the sentence and the proposition, syllogistics, forms of argumentation, dialectics, sophistry and eristics, or axiomatics; they may cover all periods of ancient philosophy, whether Greek or Latin, from archaic times to late antiquity, as well as its explicit reception in medieval, modern or contemporary philosophy. The study of particular texts or arguments following logical rules recognized as such in Antiquity will be relevant insofar as it involves a precise analysis of the rules in question. The question of the criterion or epistemology, although a matter of logic in the ancient meaning of the term, does not fall within the scope of this call for papers.

Articles submitted to the journal (maximum 70,000 characters, including spaces, not including abstracts and bibliography) must be in .doc or .odt (and .pdf) format in unicode font.

They must be written in French or English, accompanied by an abstract in French and English, and sent by e-mail no later than September 1, 2024 to the following address: revue.philosophieantique[at]gmail.com

Please follow the submission instructions on the following page: https://journals.openedition.org/philosant/487

Papers will be submitted to a double blind peer review.
