Ethical guidelines

This code of ethics has been developed in conformity with the rules and recommendations established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) especially the CORE Practices & Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.

Pratiques journal and all those involved in it agree to respect the rules set out in this ethical guidelines.

1) Journal Commitment

Responsibility and authority

  • The journal shares responsibility for everything it publishes with the authors.
  • The journal defends freedom of expression.
  • The journal uses the Compilatio software to check the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication.

Equity

  • The experts evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content.

Confidentiality

  • The journal garantees the confidentiality of every submitted manuscripts and doesn’t reveal any information about a manuscript.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest

  • The journal doesn’t use information from a submitted manuscript without the written consent of the authors.
  • The journal reserves the right to refuse to process manuscripts in which there are conflicts of interest.

Commitment to readers

  • The journal ensures that all the research it publishes complies with ethical guidelines.

Publication decisions

  • The journal is responsible for all decisions concerning the publication of articles. Her decisions are guides by editorial policies and current legal requirement.

Significant contribution

  • The journal makes sure to send clear instructions (editorial standards, reproductions rights…) to the authors.

Peer review

  • The review ensures that the peer review process is fair, unbiased and conducted within defined timeframes.

Complaints and reports

  • The journal has a clearly defined mechanism for handling complaints and reports concerning publications, guaranteeing a rapid and appropriate response..

Correction and retraction of mistakes

  • The journal accepts corrections, clarifications and retractions when necessary.

Safety of researchers and the public

  • The journal is aware of its ethical responsibility and acts to guarantee the integrity and quality of scientific publications. It adheres to the ethical principles of transparency, confidentiality, fairness and respect for the rights and duties of authors, readers and reviewers.

2) Authors’ commitments

Originality and plagiarism

  • The authors propose original contributions.
  • The authors guarantee that their contribution doesn’t infringe the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity.
  • The authors must have the necessary rights to use the illustrations included in their articles, either by acquiring reproduction permission or by checking that the document is free of rights.
  • The authors commit to not using generative AI tools to write their manuscript. If such use is detected and compromises the article’s originality, this violates the journal’s ethics, and the journal reserves the right to reject or retract the published article.

Conflicts of interest

  • The authors must inform the journal's management of any potential conflicts of interest, whether professional, financial or personal.
  • The authors must indicate all sources of funding for the research presented in the contribution.

Collectives contributions

  • Corresponding authors ensure that peers who have made a significant contribution to the conception, development and interpretation of the study presented are included in the list of co-authors.
  • Corresponding authors ensure that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the document, and decided to submit it for publication. Acknowledgements may mention certain contributors who have made a substantial contribution to the published work.

Defamatory statements

  • Authors guarantee that their article submission does not contain any defamatory, fraudulent or inaccurate statements.

Multiple or redundant publications

  • The authors undertake that their proposed article has not already been published and that it is not based in whole or in part on previously published work (with the exception of notes and reviews). They don’t submit their contribution to several journals at the same time..

References

  • the authors must appropriately cite all publications used in their work, both in the bibliography and in the body of the text.

Editorial processing

  • Authors authorize the journal's editorial team to make any changes to their articles, and cooperate with them when changes are submitted for approval.

In case of mistake

  • If the author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy after publication, he/she promptly informs the journal and cooperates with the editorial team to retract or correct the article concerned.
  • If authors are contacted by the journal after the publication of their article following the discovery of a significant error or legal problem, they quickly forward the information to the editorial team and the journal's management, along with any corrections to be reported.

Digital publishing

  • The authors agree to the distribution of their articles in digital formats on the OpenEdition Journals portals. They are also encouraged to deposit final PDFs on open archives (e.g. HAL) in accordance with the journal's policy (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)..

3) Reviewer commitment

Responsability and authority

  • The reviewers agree to review manuscripts only if they have the necessary expertise to carry out a proper review and if they can do so within the time frame specified.
  • The reviewers indicate to the reviewer if they do not have the necessary expertise to carry out the review, or if they can evaluate only part of the manuscript, clearly specifying the areas in which they are experts.
  • The reviewers re-examine any manuscript they have previously reviewed for another journal, since the manuscript may have evolved between the two submissions and the journals' criteria may be different.
  • The reviewers don’t involve others in the revision of a manuscript without first obtaining the journal's permission. If permission is granted, reviewers undertake to give the names of all persons who assisted them in the review.

Equity

  • The evaluation of manuscripts focuses solely on intellectual content. It should be objective and constructive, enabling authors to improve their contributions..
  • The reviewers don’t bias their expertise by personal considerations.
  • The reviewers must refuse to evaluate a manuscript if they consider they cannot provide a fair and impartial review.
  • The reviewers must not make any hostile, inflammatory, defamatory or derogatory comments..

Confidentiality

  • The reviewers respect the confidentiality of the manuscript and don’t divulge any details about it, even after the evaluation process has been completed.
  • The reviewers will not use information received during the review process to benefit themselves or any other person/organization, or to harm or discredit others.
  • The reviewers acknowledge that impersonating another person during the review process is a serious offence and is punishable by law.
  • The reviewers never contact authors directly without the journal's permission.
  • The reviewers will refrain from consulting the manuscript if they are awaiting specific instructions from the journal on matters that may revoke the request for review.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest

  • The reviewers declare all potential conflicts of interest, seeking advice from the journal if they are unsure of a situation.
  • The reviewers follow journal policies on review conflict situations. If they have no specific guidelines, they must inform the review if:
    • they work in the same institution as one of the authors;
    • they are or have recently been mentors, mentees or close collaborators of one of the authors;
    • they have a close personal relationship with one of the authors.
  • The reviewers inform the journal if they suspect the identity of the authors and that this raises a conflict of interest.
  • The reviewers refuse to evaluate a manuscript if they have been involved in one of the manuscript's works or its report.
  • The reviewers refuse to evaluate a manuscript if they are already preparing or revising a very similar manuscript..

Commitment to authors and the journal

  • The reviewers will read the manuscript, the accompanying instructions and the journal's evaluation grid thoroughly, returning to the journal if anything is unclear.
  • The reviewers agree to revise a manuscript only if they are confident of being able to return a revision within the imposed or agreed deadline, informing the journal promptly if they need additional time.
  • The reviewers respond within a reasonable time, especially if they are unable to carry out the revision, and without intentional delay.
  • The reviewers recognize that peer review is largely a reciprocal activity, and are committed to completing their fair share of reviews within the allotted time.
  • The reviewers commit to not using AI tools to write or influence their evaluations. Any discovery of such use constitutes an ethical breach for the journal.

Complaints and reports

  • The reviewers immediately inform the journal if:
    • they find any irregularities;
    • they have any concerns about the ethical aspects of the work;
    • they notice any similarities with another submission..

Refusal to review

  • The experts refuse to review a manuscript if they don’t agree with the journal's evaluation policy (double-blind with evaluation grid).
  • The experts refuse to review a manuscript if they only intend to read the manuscript with no intention of submitting a review.
