Editorial guide for authors

General guidelines

For articles submitted for a special report

Articles should be written in Word format / Times New Roman, font size 12, single-spaced.

The maximum number of characters is 35,000 (including spaces, notes and the bibliography)

The article title should be written at the top of the page (in lower case) and centred, followed by your first name(s) and surname(s), with a short biography in a footnote, including your position, laboratory, university and email address.

Include a summary in French, English and Spanish, not exceeding 10 lines + 5 or 6 keywords.

For the Varia section

Authors are asked to submit a 500-word article proposal in the language of publication (French, English or Spanish). Once the proposal has been approved, the editorial board will inform the authors of the timelines and methods for submitting their texts (which must not exceed 25,000 characters including spaces and the bibliography), as well as a summary in French and English (10 lines max.)

For reading notes

Reading notes may be included spontaneously about works focusing on radio and/or sound studies. They must not exceed 10,000 characters, including spaces. Reading notes are intended to help readers understand the relevance of the reviewed work from a descriptive, critical and analytical perspective and to specify its limits.

For thesis summaries

Thesis summaries may be proposed spontaneously for theses focusing on radio and/or sound studies. The thesis author must specify the date and location of the thesis defence, as well as the discipline and thesis director and summarise the purpose of the study, research issue, theoretical approach, methodology, field and key findings. Thesis summaries must not exceed 8,000 characters, including spaces.

Typographical guidelines

In French, upper-case letters must be accented where necessary (e.g. À. É. È.)

Bold characters must be mainly reserved for headings and subheadings.

Graphs, figures and/or photos must be numbered continuously with references (use a legend and title in accordance with copyright).

All paragraphs (headings in bold, small print) must be separated by a single space. Segmentation in 2 or even 3 levels of headings, is sufficient without numbering. Heading 1 (14, Times, bold), Heading 2 (12, Times, bold)

Notes, preferably brief, must be displayed at the end of the article with continuous, automatic footnotes (1,2,…5). Articles must not have more than 10 notes.

Graphs, figures and/or photos must be numbered continuously with references; use a legend and title in accordance with copyright.

If the International Phonetic Alphabet is chosen, use the symbols on the website: http://www.sil.org/computing/fonts/encore-ipa.html

Quotations and bibliographic standards

Quotations must be written in regular font and within quotation marks in the main body of the text. Double quote marks (" ") must be used imperatively. For a word or collection of words in a quotation within a quotation, use single quote marks (' ').

All deletions or omissions in quotations must be indicated by […]

References to books and articles must be inserted in the main body of the text (and not as a footnote) within parentheses, including the author's name in lower case, publication date, and page number (e.g. Cheval, 2009:10).

The bibliography at the end of the article (no indent, 15 references maximum) will mainly feature works cited in the article, with proper names written in alphabetical order.
