The systemic vulnerability of the environments in which societies evolve is (almost always) a shared reality in the anthropocene. However, it does not hinder individual and collective capacities –in the sense of agency– to imagine responses, adaptations and transformations that are often constrained. In this issue, we establish as a framework the close relationships that exist between local knowledge and know-how, situated practices and resilience, far from their standard uses in the field of the engineering of development. In order to imagine (and materialise) this resilience/governance of the commons, the contributions to this dossier invite us to recognise the potential of social action and the law.
