In September 2015, a new entity appeared on the map of gender studies: STRIGES. This interdisciplinary research structure on gender, equality, and sexuality is one of the founding teams of ULB’s Maison des Sciences Humaines.

By escaping faculty and disciplinary divisions, Striges enables architects to collaborate with historians and lawyers, psychologists to work with linguists and anthropologists, and sociologists to work alongside economists and philosophers.

This issue of Sextant aims to showcase the liveliness and diversity of the work carried out at Striges by covering a wide range of questions and disciplines. It also allows several doctoral and post-doctoral students to present their research. By including some tributes to recently deceased colleagues and personalities, it places Striges in a lineage and claims a legacy that makes its current work possible.
