This special issue focuses on a topic that has received limited attention in the historiography of slavery abolition. The abolition of slavery is often examined primarily within the context of Europe and the United States, typically marginalizing other continents, particularly Africa, which was actually one of the first regions to be impacted. The goal of this issue is to shift this perspective and explore the abolition of slavery through the lens of various African institutions and actors involved in the process.
