About the Journal
Forum Sociológico was founded in 1992, within the Instituto de Estudos e Divulgação Sociológica (IEDS), by Professor Moisés Espírito Santo and other members of the teaching staff of the Master in In-depth Sociology and Portuguese Reality at Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The first series was published till 1995 and aimed at editing short articles about ongoing research at the Institute and at fostering debate in Social Sciences.
After this first cycle of publications, the journal was inactive for about three years. From 1999 by the initiative of a group of professors and researchers from the department of sociology, the journal was re-edited, and the Second Series was started.
From then on, the journal maintained the objectives initially defined, but it was proposed to implement the evaluation instruments for scientific publications, necessary condition for editorial activities in the academic field. More recently, the Forum Sociológico was also edited in digital format and later ceased to be edited on paper. It is a publication of the Centro Interdisciplinar de Ciências Sociais of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (CICS.NOVA). The objectives that have been in its genesis, the production of scientific knowledge in sociology, constituting a forum for debate, discussion and reflection on societies, making room for scientific criticism, innovation and creativity and multidisciplinarity.
