Aims & Scope
Forum Sociológico is a semi-annual scientific journal, published by the Interdisciplinary Centre of Social Sciences of Nova University Lisbon, operating in the field of social sciences. Its mission is to publish original, theoretical and empirical articles that contribute to produce knowledge and critical and in-depth reflection about contemporary societies. Privileging the sociological perspective, the journal adopts the interdisciplinary vision that characterizes the Social Sciences and proposes to give visibility to the results of research carried out in any geographical context and to reflect on theoretical paradigms, opening space for debate and confrontation of perspectives. In this sense, the journal intends to establish itself as a permanent forum for discussion, debate and reflection on contemporary societies, producing scientific and critical thinking.
Forum Sociológico publishes internationally and values publication in Portuguese, Spanish and French, targeting a wide audience of Latin-speaking authors and readers, and publication in English, recognizing its importance for the international reach of the contents and debates hosted by the journal.
Forum Sociológico follows the usual international editing standards, namely the submission of article proposals to scientific reviewers (referees) who evaluate the quality of the articles to be published.
The journal privileges the publication of articles on problematic issues, through specific thematic dossiers, also publishing non-thematic issues. Articles may be integrated in special issues or be published in the “Other articles” section of the journal. All articles proposed for publication are submitted to a double blind peer review process (see Manuscript Review and Decision Process). The final decision of the publication is responsibility of the Editorial Board.
Original articles must be unpublished and may not be submitted for publication in any other national or international journals. Furthermore, authors may not submit more than one proposal at the same time.
In addition to unpublished articles, Forum Sociológico also promotes the publication of interviews with experts on relevant issues in Social Sciences, as well as critical reviews of recently published works relevant in its scientific area in Portugal and abroad, as well as other documents considered relevant that do not fit the format provided for the articles. All published elements are subject to peer review.
The journal Forum Sociológico is published in full open access. The submission, publication and consultation of articles are free of charge to both authors and readers.
