Guidelines for authors

Journal Forum Sociológico is published in full open access. The submission, edition and publication of texts are free of charge for authors, as well as the reading of the published texts for the public.

All original proposals must be sent to the official email of the journal (forum@fcsh.unl.pt).

The submitted manuscripts must be anonymized and accompanied by a separate file containing the following information about authors: name, email, ORCID, and institutional affiliation with three levels: University, Faculty or School, Department or Centre.

All texts should be presented in A4, space and a half pages (standard also valid for bibliography), in Times New Roman font size 12 with the upper, lower left and right margins at 2 cm. The tables, graphs and figures must be numbered continuously in Arabic numerals (Table 1 ; Graph 1 ; Figure 1) and should be sent in JPG/PNG format (with minimum resolution of 300 dpi). Citations and bibliographical references must follow the APA 7th Edition style format.

Articles must have a maximum of 40.000 characters (including spaces, abstracts, footnotes, bibliographies, tables, graphs and figures, which make up about 18 pages), and will only be considered for the double-blind peer review process if authors do not exceed the character limit. Authors are recommended to use the following structure for empirical articles : introduction ; theoretical framework ; methods ; results ; discussion ; acknowledgments ; notes ; and references.

Articles must start with title, abstract, and keywords in the main language of the text and also in Portuguese and English, if the text is not written in those – with a maximum of 1.000 characters (10 lines) for each abstract, followed by 3 or 4 keywords in these same languages, and the indication of the global number of characters (including spaces). Abstracts must include the following information : introduction to the subject ; reference to the theoretical and methodological approaches ; main results ; conclusions; and the relevance of the work.

Articles must also present the following information: 1) a statement about the function/s performed by each author listed in the work, according to the CRedIT taxonomy nomenclature; 2) a declaration on the existence or absence of conflicts of interest; and 3) a statement about the existence or absence of research funding sources.

The use of third-party material must be accompanied by a statement of authorization for use with legal consent and must be obtained by the authors of the publication.

Authors listed in the original works must fulfil all the criteria mentioned below : 1) have contributed in a substantive way to the conception/design of the work or the collection, analysis or interpretation of the data ; AND 2) have contributed substantively in the writing or critical review ; AND 3) approving the final version submitted, being responsible for all the work carried out, including its ethical implications. Collaborators who do not meet the authorship criteria must be mentioned in the “Acknowledgements” section. Forum Sociológico disapproves of the attribution of honorary authorship, offered, invited or phantom in the manuscripts proposed for publication. In this context, we follow the COPE guidelines about authorship definitions (available here).

By publishing in Forum Sociológico, authors agree with the free and exclusive transfer of the right to publish the first version of the original work to CICS.NOVA – Centro Interdisciplinar de Ciências Sociais, Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, reserving the right to reproduce and publish it in paper and/or digital support and to distribute and promote it by all normal means at its disposal.
