Guidelines for Authors

All original proposals must be sent to the official email of Forum Sociológico (forum@fcsh.unl.pt). The submitted manuscripts must be anonymized and must be accompanied by a separate file containing all information about the authors (name, e-mail and institutional affiliation indicated at three levels : University, Faculty or School, Department or Centre).

The texts must have a maximum of 40,000 characters (including spaces, abstracts, footnotes, bibliographies, tables, graphs and figures, which makes up about 18 pages), and will only be considered for scientific evaluation if authors do not exceed the character limit stipulated by the journal. Authors are recommended to follow the following structure for scientific articles : introduction ; theoretical framework ; methods ; results ; discussion ; acknowledgments ; notes ; references.

The texts should start with a title and abstract in the language of the text and in the Portuguese and English, if it is not written in those languages, with a maximum of 1,000 characters (10 lines), followed by 3 or 4 keywords in these same languages and the indication of the number of characters (including spaces). Abstracts should include the following information : introduction to the study ; reference to theoretical and methodological approaches ; main results ; conclusion and relevance of the work.

The texts should be presented in A4, space and a half pages (standard also valid for bibliography), in Times New Roman font size 12 with the upper, lower left and right margins at 2 cm. The tables, graphs and figures should be numbered continuously, in Arabic numerals, for each of the respective elements (Chart 1, Figure 1) and should be sent in JPG format (minimum resolution of 300 dpi). Citations and bibliographical references must follow the APA 7th citation standard.

The authors indicated in the original works must fulfill all the criteria mentioned below : 1) have contributed in a substantive way to the conception/design of the work or in the collection, analysis or interpretation of the data ; AND 2) having contributed in a substantive way in the writing or critical review ; AND 3) approving the final version submitted, being responsible for all the work carried out, including its ethical implications. Collaborators who do not meet the authorship criteria must be mentioned in the “Acknowledgements” section. Forum Sociológico disapproves of the attribution of honorary authorship, offered, invited or phantom in the manuscripts proposed for publication. In this context, we follow the COPE guidelines with regard to authorship definitions (available here).

The use of third-party material must be accompanied by a statement of authorization for use with legal consent and must be obtained by the authors of the publication.
