1Le volume rassemble douze contributions issues d’un colloque tenu à Oxford en 2015. L’Introduction: Textual Experiments, Thinking with Fiction, par Jonathan Morton, pp. 1-20, précise le sens qu’il faut donner à l’expression «thought experiment» en particulier en littérature: la fiction est en quelque sorte une expérience, un scénario hypothétique destiné à susciter une réaction en sollicitant l’imagination du lecteur. J. M. ajoute: «We are employing the term as a provocation, as an invitation to think about the many different ways in which the hypothetical and the fictional could be used as tools for thought» (p. 6).
