Created by the French Ministry of Culture in 1983, the journal Terrain takes a singular look at contemporary societies, fostered by ethnographic description and an openness to other human and social sciences. The journal produces themed issues twice a year, published by the Terrain Association (in print and digital versions), and also publishes online-only articles under five headings, as well as producing the blog Carnets de Terrain, a vast digital environment for discussion of current affairs, original research, as well as posts that take up the themed issues of the journal

Do we have the right tools to grasp what’s overwhelming us? What can we do when our geographical and mental reference points are overturned? That’s the challenge of this issue, which looks at cross-border trade, oil and oil spills, music and territories, digital technology and social networks, ultratrail, whole-body geological extraction, and the spatial commons. These phenomena compel us to invent new ways of investigating, to take a closer look at what we don’t understand, and new ways of imagining what’s outside the box. What if it were precisely when boundaries have been crossed that the true demarcation lines of our worlds are revealed, those that structure them as much as those that fracture them?

This issue is available in bookstores since September the 3rd, 2022 in its paper version, increased with a rich iconography, at the price of 23€.
