A poem: Uk Kei

Un poème : Uk kei

Texte intégral

Uk Kei
2011, 2024, 2047

1what is a passport
but a prerogative
to not be stamped
when returning ‘home’?

返到屋企喇。

Uk Kei
or in acronym, UK.

2011—
I paid international fees despite my maroon passport
that debit card took two weeks to arrive
the Thames stank half as bad as Shing Mun River
there’s no banana-throwing in the Parliament
dimsum and roasted goose tasted alkaline
—was UK my uk kei?

2024—
‘mate’ and ‘cheers’ pepper my daily speech
but ‘jolly’ and ‘bloody’ haven’t made the cut
blame hard water and gusty wind for hair loss
HMV still exists here but not there
and 事頭婆 has left us, with a new Tube line
—is UK my uk kei?

2047—
I’ll be sixty and that place fifty and over

—will UK still be my uk kei?
